Summary of Position: Ferris State University is seeking to fill a 1-year temporary position for a Study Abroad Coordinator in the Office of International Education. The coordinator, in support of the goals of the office, will be part of an innovative and student-centered team of International Educators. The position requires attention to detail and excellent communication skills. The selected candidate will be a student-centered professional and a team player.
The coordinator will be responsible for supporting campus globalization efforts including event planning and coordinating co-curricular activities and engagements to encourage experiential learning. Responsibilities include advising students, marketing study abroad programs, developing summer programs, informing campus community of global opportunities, and supporting faculty offering short-term study abroad programs. The anticipated start date for this position is November of 2023. However, this is an estimated date and can be revised if needed.

Required Work Experience: Experience studying or working abroad.
Required Licenses and Certifications: Must have a current, valid driver’s license, be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident, and be able to obtain a U.S. passport.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Master’s degree; Two or more years of experience working in a higher education or international travel setting. Two years full time is equivalent to 1 year part time.
Demonstrated effectiveness in intercultural communication both orally and in writing to a diverse faculty, staff, students, and community.
Understanding of education abroad program development and implementation
Experience planning and executing events.
Budget management experience
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, database management, social media, and website management
Proficiency in a second language
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Develop comprehensive international education programs that support experiential learning and global competency.
Provide logistical support for program development and internationalization projects, including faculty-led study abroad programs.
Design, develop, and implement international summer school programs.
Conduct orientations and training on best practices to a variety of audiences.
Research & communicate Study Abroad opportunities for faculty, staff and students.
Student Service Duties
Develop and maintain electronic advising portal using an LMS such as Canvas.
Communicate with prospective students on Study Abroad opportunities including semester exchanges, international summer school programs, faculty-led programs, third-party provider options, and international internships opportunities.
Host pre-departure orientations and provide programming and support for student re-entry.
Review financial aid/budgets, academic learning plans, travel/logistics plans, health and safety plans.
Maintain communication with Study Abroad students traveling overseas and serve as an emergency contact when students are abroad.
Administrative and Budget Duties
Prepare and manage budgets
Process expense reports and reconcile program accounts.
Schedule study abroad courses, process transcripts, and facilitate transfer credits.
Conduct program evaluations for both students and faculty and prepare reports on projects.
Prepare databases, calendars, and files to manage multiple projects and keep records accordingly.
Marketing, Branding, and Communication Duties
Develop and manage marketing and brand identity projects including social media, promotional tables, open houses/workshops, classroom visits, and other campus engagement opportunities.
Coordinate and create content and campaigns for a variety of social media and electronic platforms to increase following and awareness of international opportunities.
Reports directly to assigned supervisor. Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated information. Performs all duties in compliance with applicable University policies and procedures and state and federal requirements.
Supervise student employees as assigned. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with university policies and applicable laws.
Represent International Education within the University, in the community and overseas with professional organizations, and agencies; lead, work with, and serve on University committees. This position may require domestic and international travel.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
