Job Description

Looking for an interesting job to help you learn your way around the library? Want to improve your research skills? Want a job that looks good on your resume? Research and Instructional Services in the Knowledge Center at the University of Nevada, Reno is hiring a Peer Research Consultant (PRC). We’ll train you to use a variety of library resources and tools in order to help your fellow students with their research needs.

All Peer Research Consultants are thoroughly trained and will work alongside librarians. No prior library experience needed!

Note: Depending on the candidate’s availability, the job (including training) starts in Summer or August 2024. Interviews will take place in April/May 2024.

Responsibilities

• Peer Research Consultants work with the library staff in offering research support to library users virtually through chat, in person, and over the phone.

• Special projects may be assigned as well.

Required Qualifications

• Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno

• Candidate must have completed ENG 102 with B- or higher

• Candidate must have customer service or retail experience

• Candidate has the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team

• Candidate has strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Candidate has prior experience tutoring or mentoring in any formal or informal setting

• Candidate has basic research skills

• Candidate has approval for work study

Schedule

Expected hours to work per week: 10 – 12

PRC hours are Monday through Friday, 1:00pm-5:00pm.

Additional hours are available during school breaks and this position is flexible around your class schedule.

$11.75/hr
