Job Description

The Washoe County Extension Office with the University of Nevada, Reno, seeks students interested in employment for data collection assistance. The work involves interacting with non-profit representatives, often in person, to document where their good work occurs in Reno and Sparks. This position reports directly to Research Scientist, Audrey Omar. A benefit and joy of Extension work is engaging in improving communities and individuals’ lives in Nevada. This project will ultimately help non-profit organizations function more effectively in Washoe County.

Responsibilities

• Visit non-profits in the Reno/Sparks area to confirm and complete data collection

• Provide weekly updates to the supervisor

• Opportunities for data analysis and presentations available for driven and successful student workers

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

• Walking or standing to a significant degree

• Pushing and/or pulling

• Exerting 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects

• Travel throughout the Reno/Sparks area is required

Required Qualifications

• Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno

• Candidate must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week during the Fall/Spring semesters (see schedule below)

• Candidate must have a valid Class “C” driver’s license and must have their own reliable transportation

• Candidate must present a professional appearance with excellent communication and customer service skills

• Candidate must be hard-working, reliable, and punctual with good organizational skills

• Candidate must possess the ability to work with minimal supervision while handling multiple assignments

• Candidate must maintain confidentiality

• Candidate must have strong Microsoft Office skills

• Candidate must be comfortable working effectively with diverse cultural and community interests and developing and maintaining strong working relationships

Preferred Qualifications

• Candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish are preferred

Schedule

Expected hours to work per week: 10 - 20 during the semester (Monday through Friday)
