Job Description

The University of Nevada Reno is recruiting for roles that will fill the Board of Directors of the Residential Housing Association (RHA). Under the supervision of the Coordinator for Student Engagement, the RHA Board of Directors consists of 5 roles that work alongside the RHA Executive Board to provide resources, advocacy, and operational support to residents within all communities of Residential Life, Housing, and Food Service at the University of Nevada.

Those five roles are:

  • Director of Administration

  • Director of Programming

  • Director of Advocacy

  • Director of Marketing

  • Director of Engagement

This position is for the Director of Programming.

Specifically, the Director of Programming works to plan and execute the major social events for the Residential Housing Association (RHA). Alongside the Programming Board and the Vice President of Internal Affairs, a successful a candidate will plan large scale programming events to create community for the students of the university (at least two per semester), and continuously work to develop relations for the residents of the university. This entails keeping a vital level of importance on RHA traditional events, but also working to innovate and improve on past ideas.

Responsibilities

  • The Director of Programming is charged with completing weekly RHA reports,
    developing agenda and hosting Programming Board meetings, as well as
    fulfilling 10 scheduled office hours in the RHA Resource Center.

  • Other duties include preparing budgets for events, maintaining a budget
    tracker, organizing effective promotion and marketing for events,

  • The Director of Programming also serves as liaison to the ASUN (Associated Students of the University of Nevada) Programming Department.

Required Qualifications

  • Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno

  • Candidate must be a resident in one of our residential communities

  • Candidate must have knowledge of:

    • Residential life operations and procedures

    • Conflict resolution

    • General higher educational procedures

    • Knowledge in human resources

    • Problem solving for students’ issues and concerns

    • Program development and administration
       

  • Candidate must have skills in:

    • Time management and able to plan ahead

    • Administrative and organizational skills

    • Personnel supervision/management

    • Leadership

    • Interpersonal and human relations

    • Dispute and conflict resolution

    • Public relations and customer service

    • Excellent written and verbal communication

    • Decision making and creative problem solving

    • Proficiency in use of a personal computer and current software applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and email)
       

  • Candidate must have the ability to:

    • Work and interact with diverse populations of students, parents, faculty and staff in a positive and productive manner

    • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

    • Plan and implement programs that support departmental goals

    • Manage staff and work as a team leader

    • Remain task and goal oriented

    • Work evenings and weekends and travel as needed

Schedule

Expected hours to work per week: 10

Hours will vary depending on future scheduling of meetings, events, and other such obligations.
