Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno’s Center for Student Engagement is recruiting for a student worker to work as the ASUN Senate Committee Secretary.

Responsibilities

The duties of the Committee Secretary shall include but are not limited to the following:

  • Attend and transcribe the minutes of the Committee meetings

  • Assist the Secretary of the Senate in tracking the attendance of Senators during Committee meetings

  • Ensure the committee meetings abide by the standing rules of order

  • Abide by Nevada Open Meeting Law with respect to NRS 241.035 and provide printed versions of the agenda for the public

  • Preside during Senate meetings if instructed to do so by the Secretary of the Senate

  • Provide the Secretary with copies of drafts and approved minutes

  • Assist in assembling a book of minutes for the body, which shall contain the original records listed below for each meeting in the following order: The agenda, shall record each meeting for the public and work jointly with the Secretary of Senate of the Associated Students to appropriately file each recording

Required Qualifications

  • Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno in a degree-seeking program

  • Candidate must maintain good academic standing (at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale)

  • Candidate must be continuously enrolled in at least 30 academic credits throughout the duration of the employment

  • Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel or willing to learn

  • Students must be able to listen to recordings of meetings and type our minutes from the meeting in a fast pace nature

Expected hours to work per week: 10-15

Center for Student Engagement Student Employee Learning Outcomes

Through employment within the ASUN Center for Student Engagement, students will be better prepared to: Knowledge acquisition, integration, construction, and application: Student employees will be exposed to various methods of researching and accessing information. Student Employees will gain knowledge of the organization and university mission.

Center for Student Engagement Student Employee Mission:
The vision for the student employment program in the ASUN Student Engagement Center is to convert a traditional work environment into learning-outcomes based culture. When successful implementation is achieved, student employees will learn skills beyond the practical aspects of their jobs (learning outcomes) that compare to the skills employers are looking for after graduation. Learning outcomes for employment will also support the academic mission of the University. We hope to provide opportunities that will enhance student employees with civic engagement, critical thinking skills, leadership skills and personal growth.
