Position Announcement

UVU is looking for a Spanish tutor!


Summary of Responsibilities

  • Tutor students enrolled in Spanish courses, particularly lower-division courses, in person and virtually.
  • Complete tutoring certification program, model problem-solving skills and study strategies, assist in curriculum design for language lab, and improve personal language skills.
  • Participate in the production and dissemination of promotional materials and events.
  • Assist students with language-specific programs online and in computer lab.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the lab manager.


Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a current UVU student.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in language comprehension, production, and writing. 
  • Knowledge and ability to explain, in detail, aspects of Spanish (grammar, vocabulary, syntax, pronunciation, colloquial usage, etc.) as covered in Spanish 3050, or equivalent.
  • Have taken and pass SPAN 3050 and be in the program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engagement with Spanish community outside academic setting.
  • Majoring or minoring in Spanish.
  • Experience in teaching or tutoring.
  • Experience in utilizing tutoring services.
  • Experience in collating and analyzing data in Microsoft Excel.


Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Ethical, responsible, motivated self-starter who needs little supervision after training.
  • Ability to adhere to a set schedule with little supervision.
  • Evidence of advanced customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • General computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.).
