Position Summary
The student research assistant for Environmental Science Research Assistant positions are available and will assist with one of two specialties. One Assistant will model earthquakes using MATLAB Web Apps. A second Assistant will use petrographic microscopy to interpret microstructures in rocks retrieved from subduction zones.
This is a student position open to current UIW students. 
Essential Functions
Position 1:
-Write code in MATLAB Apps
-Assist in the development of an earthquake simulator
-Perform other duties as assigned.
Position 2:
-Operate a light microscope
-Identify rock minerals
-Interpret rock microstructures

Qualifications


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Position 1:
-Experience coding using MATLAB Apps
- Experience with earthquake simulation
-Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
-Employees shall adhere to all rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA
Position 2:
-Experience with petrographic microscopes
-Experience interpreting rock microfractures
-Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
-Employees shall adhere to all rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA
Required Education
Current UIW student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Engineering, or Mathematics (Both positions)
Required Work Experience
Preferred Qualifications
Both positions:
Major in STEM field
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Work Hours
  • May work up to 10 hours per week
  • Work schedule to be determined, based on student schedule;
Physical Demands
  • Ability to reach, bend, push and/or pull, and lift up to 20-25 lbs. for various office needs and equipment;
