ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Campus Recreation department provides opportunities for USFSP students, faculty and staff to participate in a wide variety of recreational pursuits. Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs. The department has 6 full time employees and 100+ part time employees. The budget for Campus Recreation is just over $1 million and Campus Recreation includes Fitness, Competitive Sports, Outdoor Recreation, and Aquatics.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position reports to the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation (#1383) and serves as a full time professional member of the USFSP Campus Recreation staff. The primary purpose of this position is to oversee and provide leadership to the Fitness Center and Programs. The Fitness Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, supervision, and development of the Fitness Center student staff, Group Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers. This position will be responsible for creating, developing and enforcing policies and procedures of the Fitness Center, coordinating facility reservations, overseeing operations, developing and upholding risk management policies, managing inventory, and marketing programs to engage student participation. This position will work closely with other Campus Recreation program coordinators, Student Government, General Counsel, USFSP Police, the Wellness Center, and other various departments within the University community. Responsible for $200,000 for the Fitness Center and its programs annual operating budget. Position will require some night and weekends supervisory hours and will need to be accessible by cell phone and/or email. This position is considered essential personnel for emergency management and may be required to assist with emergency operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruit, hire, train, supervise, evaluate and terminate (when necessary) fitness center student and non-student OPS employees; Create and maintain schedule for all group fitness staff and relevant programming; Plan, promote, and facilitate in-house training for staff, students, and other members; Develop and implement professional development for group fitness staff.

Provide support to overall management of Campus Recreation facility policies, quality service, programmatic success, participant safety, and facility security and cleanliness. Conduct safety inspections and audits.

Create and maintain group fitness and instructional class schedules; Plan, implement, and evaluate fitness programs, special events, awareness weeks, and educational workshops; Collaborate with entities on and off campus to provide fitness/wellness programs, educational materials, presentations, and marketing; Coordinate, host, and evaluate nationally recognized workshops and certifications through ACSM, NSCA, ACE, etc.; Assist with the coordination of fitness programs and services for special populations, nontraditional students, and community members; Maintains statistical data for related programs for the production of reports.

Research and recommend fitness equipment for purchase; Regular maintenance and cleaning of all fitness equipment including documentation of maintenance and repairs; Arranging trainings for maintenance of fitness equipment for the appropriate personnel (when necessary). Communicate with vendors when needed.

Operate within budget to meet staffing, programming, and equipment needs; Develop budget projections for OPS staff, future programming and specific equipment needs.

Assist in department strategic planning, budgeting efforts, marketing efforts, establish learning outcomes and obtaining department goals.

Assist department in planning, developing, organizing and directing camp programs.

Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, with at least one year of experience in a student affairs or student personnel position; or a Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or Sports Recreation Administration. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor degree requirement for this position.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Depending upon the nature of the assignment, this position may require substantial work in outdoor environments, and/or regular attendance and participation in meetings during evenings and weekends.
PREFERRED:

Master's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Recreational Sports Administration, Student Affairs or related field and 1 year of professional experience in university recreation health/fitness setting Group Exercise Certification and the ability to teach multiple group formats (i.e., Yoga, Pilates, Cycling, Kickboxing, etc.) and have one of the following certifications: ACSM EPC, ACSM CPT, NSCA CPT, NASM CPT or ACE CPT; experience in fitness education, training, and program planning.

A valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire date is required. CPR/AED & First Aid certified, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of employment. A Graduate Assistantship will substitute for 1 year of professional experience. Experience with FUSION access control and Subitup scheduling software.
