Student Peer Advisor

Location: Janesville, WISCONSIN

Position will provide a peer connection and resources for Blackhawk Technical College students. Peer advisors will need to have knowledge of:

  • MyBTC & Student Technology (i.e. Starfish, Blackboard, Webmail, Zoom)
  • Class scheduling (Banner Selfsev)
  • Blackhawk Technical College website
  • Microsoft Office, especially basic functions of Word and Excel
  • Accessing program requirements
  • Campus resources
  • Campus locations
  • Benefits of campus involvement (i.e. clubs and organizations)
  • Co-curricular offerings

Position will work 3-12 hours per week when Advising, Registration, and Orientaiton (ARO Sessions) are being held. 



  • Refer students to advisors, faculty/staff, and/or campus resources
  • Participation in enrollment activities (drop-in)
  • Participation in Advising, Registration, and Onboarding activities
  • Participation in supportive advising activities
  • Provide administrative support and other office duties as assigned
  •  



    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of Student Resources such as MyBTC, Class Scheduling, BTC Website.
  • Knowledgeable regarding course requirements in General Education and Programs.
  • Knowledgeable of campus resources, campus locations, and student organizations/campus involvement.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience interacting with diverse student population.
  •  

    Education & Experience:

  • Currently enrolled Blackhawk Technical College student, and remain a student for duration of position assignment.
  • Enrolled in or completed a minimum of 9 credits at BTC.
  • Student in “Good Standing" having a 2.50 GPA, and maintain during position.
  • Complete at least one term at Blackhawk Technical College prior to position start.
  • Blackhawk Technical College does not offer H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.
