Student Mental Health Response Coordinator


Position Summary
  • Responsible for recruitment, supervision, training, and retention of Student Ambassadors.  


  • Become trained as a Mental Health First Aid Train the Trainer. 


  • Facilitate ongoing Mental Health Trainings on campus.  


  • Plans and facilitates training for new Student Mental Health Response employees once per semester. 


  • Coordinates referrals to services in the community when necessary. 


  • Participates in and cofacilitates Outreach Committee meetings.  


  • Maintains database and collects data related to multicultural engagement and mental health response. 


  • Provides crisis intervention, resources, and referrals as needed. 


  • Maintains collaborative relationships with campus and community partners.  


  • Completes other duties as specified and assigned.

  • Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

    Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work such as Master's in Social Work with a concentration in behavioral or social science or Master's in Public Health or Nursing; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public health programming, health risk appraisal, health care delivery systems or nursing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and may require possession of Certified Social Worker Certificate which is required by the State of Michigan or certification as a Registered Nurse.


    Desired Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in social work preferred. 

    • Experience mentoring and overseeing student employees.  

    • Experience developing training curriculums and facilitating meetings. 

    • Experience facilitating training and presentations for large groups. 

    • Experience coordinating peer educators. 

    • Experience with data collection and reporting. 

    • Awareness and experience using an intersectional lens with a focus on multiculturalism, diversity, equity, and inclusion. 

    • Demonstrated empathy and supportive communication skills. 

    • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills 

    • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work responsibilities. 

    • Ability to be honest and maintain professional boundaries. 

    • Ability to work collaboratively with other clinicians and providers. 


    • English language proficiency; bilingual desired though not required.
