Student Lab Assistant - Biology (BBC)

The Biological Sciences department is currently seeking a Student Lab Assistant to join their team of professionals.

Duties to include:

• Ability to communicate effectively
• Possess a high sense of responsibility
• Ability to maintain pleasant working relationships and work well in a team environment
• Must also be able to work individually 
• Answering phones
• Prepare solutions and provide all materials, equipment, specimens and solutions needed for the undergraduate biology teaching labs
• Updating inventories and necessary documents
• Assist Faculty, Staff, Adjuncts and Teacher Assistants with the labs and other tasks
• Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of the Biscayne Bay Campus stockroom and undergraduate biology teaching labs

• Requires completion of mandatory EHS lab safety training courses prior to start date.                                                                                                       
• Must be able to work in a laboratory setting.
• Ability to work in a team setting.
• Ability to take direction and work independently as needed.
• Basic level of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, OneDrive and Sharepoint.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information.
• Must have taken at least two semesters of college level Chemistry courses and at least two semesters of Biology courses.
• Must be pursuing a degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry or any related science or engineering degree. 

Student Lab Assistant

• Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters. 
• During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
• Upon graduating, student employment must end.

Work schedule is flexible and is dependent on lab times. 

$13.00/hour

Criminal Background Check
This student appointment may be subjected to a pre-employment background check.

The majority of the tasks will be in a laboratory enviroment.
