Position Summary Information


Job Description Summary
In support of the Student Affairs Learning Outcomes, the Department of Student Engagement assists students in finding connection and community at Chapman University. Along with professional staff and in collaboration with other team members, the Student Involvement Coaches share involvement opportunities and help students develop action steps toward social satisfaction and success through one-on-one meetings, group facilitation, and email communication. All Student Involvement Coaches are members of the Department of Student Engagement and the Division of Student Affairs.
Responsibilities
  • Meet one-on-one with students to discuss involvement opportunities at Chapman and help them develop related action steps
  • Review form submissions and prepare involvement reports based on a student’s interests, identities, and academic goals
  • Maintain knowledge of student organizations, campus services and resources, and upcoming programs to share with students
  • Keep detailed notes of student meetings and save them as directed
  • Respond to all communication students within 48 hours of receiving the correspondence
  • Develop and/or contribute to workshops and events designed to help students gain the skills and experience of connecting with their peers
  • Collaborate with other campus departments and organizations to provide programs and resources designed to facilitate social skill building and community engagement
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources based on their needs
  • Promote student involvement and attendance at campus events, especially those hosted by Student Engagement, UPB, and SGA
  • Promote the use of You at Chapman, Engage, RecPortal and other campus systems designed for student involvement
  • Act as a liaison between Department of Student Engagement and students
  • Assist in Department of Student Engagement department-wide events
  • Assist in other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to empathize, perspective-take, and show acceptance of diverse students
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills
  • Effectiveness in establishing rapport with other students
  • Knowledge of or experience with campus programs, resources, and services
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Ability to use standard office equipment including computer, copier, telephones
  • Minimum of a 2.5 GPA
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience as an executive leader of a campus club or organization
  • Experience as an Orientation Leader or peer mentor
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to access basement storage facility
  • Federal Work Study award
Special Instructions to Applicants
