Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Student Assistant for NJMS- Microbiology, Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics. The purpose of this position under the direction of the Principal Investigator, will be to analyze tissues using standard cellular, molecular, and biochemical procedures from mice infected with microbes. He/She should be able to perform mice tissue analysis under the PI’s or postdoctoral fellows’ supervision. These studies are conducted to determine the impact of tick-borne pathogens, Borrelia burgdorferi that causes Lyme disease and Babesia microti, which is a hemoparasite that infects Red Blood Cells (RBCs). Experiments will include microscopic examination of slides prepared from infected mouse blood samples after staining to determine Babesia microti parasitemia levels.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Conducts bacterial transformation, plasmid isolation using kits, and help postdoctoral fellows in their experiments, as needed.
  • Maintains lab-Preparation of microbial and tissue culture medium as need, autoclaving or filter sterilization, isolation of plasmids and purification of recombinant proteins.
  • Ensures maintenance and proper use of lab equipment.
  • Performs various research and technical procedures
