This Student Assistant Landscape and Grounds is manual or physical work in the performance of outdoor landscape maintenance. Assists Grounds employees in performing the following: digging, planting, laying pine straw, watering, debris pickup (limbs/pinecones, etc), pruning, hand weeding, spray weeds. Possibly - blowing sidewalks and parking lots and some weed eating.

Digging and planting - 15%
Planting Flowers and some shrubs / physical
Weeding - 15%
Hand weeding with tool/trowel or hand pulling small
Backpack Spraying - 15%
Walking with 1or 2 gals in backpack find/spraying weeds in sidewalks/ street curbs or in landscape beds
Blowing off sidewalks - 10%
Handheld or backpack blower getting debris off sidewalks
Raking up leaves - 15%
Hand rake cleaning curbs of parking lots or in plant beds
Pruning Shrubs - 15%
Hand snipping or using motorized pruner ' the raking up clippings
Assorted similar work items - 15%
Physical but not hard, lots of work, lots of debris

Educational Requirements
High School diploma 
Enrolled at Georgia College & State University
Other Required Qualifications
Must be able to work 3 to 4 hour stints of time during the week to total not more than 19 hours per week (during the school sessions). Most workdays preferred Mon ' Friday but once trained ' you may be allowed to work weekends (Sat or Sunday) as needed to fulfill your hours for the week.
Required Experience
Ability to do physical work outdoors environment ' lift up to 30 lbs.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Must be able to read, follow, and understand work instructions in writing and orally.
Must be able to read and comprehend the Safety hazard and operating practices associated with power equipment.
Have the ability to perform manual labor under outdoor climatic conditions.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Any education centered around outdoor pruning, weeding, planting and landscape experience
Preferred Experience
Any outdoor experience to be aware of heat/ cold. Any athletic sport that assists you to realize physical labor requirements.

ABILITIES
Have the ability to perform manual labor under outdoor climatic conditions, ability to learn many different tasks and how it was done, learn to identify the plants you are working with.
KNOWLEDGE
Must be able to comprehend instructions for operating practices associated equipment, follow instructions, handle physical work with tools, understand how to use tools, backpack sprayers, and pulling weeds. Learn plants when working with them.
SKILLS
Must be able to read and comprehend the Safety hazard and operating practices associated with power equipment.
