Seeking advanced undergraduate students with a background in literacy and mentorship to support a federally grant-funded project between Georgia College and Baldwin County School District that seeks to fosters stronger student literacy achievement in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The mentors will support local educators in their fifth-grade literacy curriculum during instructional time at either Lakeview Academy or Midway Hills Academy.
Mentors must be available after the Georgia College semester ends through the month of May. This role is a temporary, grant-funded role with no expectation for renewal and reports to the Project Coordinator. 
The duties and responsibilities of this position require interpersonal and clerical skills and an understanding of effective customer service.

Mentoring - 50 Provide support in reading comprehension and the writing process alongside classroom teachers. Support students during field trip days to Andalusia and Georgia College. Encourage students to set literacy goals and explore their creativity.

Administrative Support - 25 Assist with recording podcast episodes written and read by 5th grade students. Support data collection to meet grant objectives. Operates equipment, including fax machine, personal computer or laptop, printer, copier, scanner, etc. Organizes and monitors inventory of office supplies.

Educational Requirements
Grade of B or higher in English 1101 and 1102
Other Required Qualifications
Flexibility and patience in working with fifth grade aged children.
Mentors must be available after the Georgia College semester ends through the month of May.
Student enrolled in at least six credit hours as an undergraduate student at Georgia College.
Required Experience
Experience in mentorship and/or tutoring geared at increasing student confidence.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Involvement with Baldwin County - Milledgeville community.
Familiarity with audio recording devices.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Advanced coursework in English, Creative Writing, and/or Middle Grades Education.

ABILITIES
Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment, to take initiative, and to follow through with all responsibilities and assigned tasks. Ability to work with various constituencies. Access to a vehicle to drive to assigned mentorship location.
KNOWLEDGE
Familiarity with literacy support in K12 grades, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening
SKILLS
Demonstrated professionalism and dependability
Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Outstanding customer service skills
Must be proactive and able to engage with various constituencies
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
