Job Summary
 

The Student Assistant will support the Center for Rehabilitation and Independent Living as a Camp RAD Assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Summer 2024. 

The Center for Rehabilitation and Independent Living in the Waters College of Health Professions at Georgia Southern University is seeking applicants for Camp RAD Assistants for Summer 2024. The mission of Camp RAD is to empower transition-age youth with disabilities to live healthy, independent lives. Camp RAD uses an interdisciplinary approach that utilizes experts in the fields of pediatric occupational, physical, and speech therapy, adaptive physical activity, child and family development, public health and nutrition. We provide a fun, safe summer experience that promotes life skills and physical activity with a focus on the comprehensive well-being of the child. Our interdisciplinary team of professionals uses an innovative model to plan, implement, monitor progress, and evaluate camp.
Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.


Responsibilities
 
  • Assist with planning activities for camp based on the curriculum
  • Lead camp activities
  • Support Students and Volunteers with campers as needed
  • Pick up supplies as requested
  • Help with set-up and break-down of camp materials
  • Work with assigned camper (this involves supporting their camper through each activity, communicating with their camper to support verbal/nonverbal communication skills, assisting the camper in meeting their goals)
  • Keep eyes on assigned camper at all times
  • Escort camper to all activities, buses (if going on a field trip), to the restroom, etc.
  • Support camper in keeping his/her area clean and keeping materials/activity souvenirs in camper bag/area
  • Model appropriate behaviors for their camper and other campers:
    • Following directions provided by the Director, Site Coordinator, or Staff member
    • Listening when directions are given
    • Communication skills
    • Encourage a positive attitude about trying new foods/activities

Shift Specifics

  • Up to 20 hours per week
  • Flexible with schedule of availability

Required Qualifications
 

Educational Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.

Proposed Salary
 

$12.00 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
