SOAR Orientation


Job Summary
 

The Student Assistant will support the SOAR Orientation Department as a SOAR Leader on the Statesboro Campus beginning Spring 2024. 

A SOAR leader serves as a mentor to new students and their families as they transition into the university. Providing both academic and social support, they assist with the execution of all in-person and virtual transition events. 
Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.


Responsibilities
 
  • Actively participate in all SOAR Leader Training, including Spring Training, Camp SOAR, and Summer Training Summer SOAR Sessions: Serve as a role model for all new students by displaying responsibility and maturity
  • Facilitate small groups for incoming first-year freshmen and transfer/adult students
  • Assist in the organization and preparation of orientation activities and processes
  • Acclimate new students by sharing campus resources, engagement opportunities, and how to navigate campus
  • Engage in conversations with new students and their family members and supporters
  • Serve as a resource to all incoming new students by assisting them with any special needs and/or concerns
  • Represent Georgia Southern University and the Office of New Student & Family Programs in a positive manner
  • Develop and implement additional programming opportunities for new students through The Eagle Experience Attend biweekly team meetings with professional staff and student coordinators
  • Assist with answering phones, as necessary
  • Assist with the social media presence of SOAR, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned within New Student & Family Programs, including Family Weekend events during the academic year

Shift Specifics

  • Up to 19 hours per week
  • Flexible with schedule of availability
  • An average of approximately 2-3 hours per week during the Spring semester
  • An average of 20 hours per week during the Summer; however, hours may vary depending on the number of SOAR session
  • You may occasionally be expected to work on weekends and after 5:00 pm during the Spring semester; this will be more frequent during the Summer 
  • Time Commitments: Applicants must be able to participate in each of the following: 
    • Spring Training (2-3 hours biweekly; specific days and times to be determined by team class schedules) 
    • Summer Training (May 2024) SOAR Sessions (May-August 2024) 
    • The Eagle Experience (August 2024)

Required Qualifications
 

Educational Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.

Proposed Salary
 

$10.00 per hour

This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
