Summary

The Student Ambassador position is a student leadership position that positively represents Barry University and fulfills the mission of the university, and the mission of Department of Recruitment and Admissions. Student Ambassadors will help educate visitors about the campus life, history, traditions, and achievements of the University. Student Ambassadors are responsible for providing campus tours, assisting with recruitment events, and assisting with the overall tasks and functions of recruitment campaigns and initiatives. The student ambassador’s work schedule is flexible based on their coursework and will include evenings and weekends as needed. This position guarantees one academic year in the program with the option to be re-hired for the next academic year. This position is offered on a yearly basis. Ambassadors who intend to continue working will need to apply every year.


Essential Functions

  • Responsible for ensuring that visitors to the University have a positive experience.

  • Greet and provide information to prospective, new, and continuing students.

  • Provide individual campus tours.

  • Provide group tours.

  • Provide holiday tours.

  • Participate in university recruitment events and initiatives which may need to happen after hours.

  • Assist the Department of Recruitment and Admissions by:

  • Providing assistance to employees of the university, specifically Financial Aid, Undergraduate   Admissions, Graduate Admissions, Academic Departments, and the Student Services Center.

  • Ensuring that all areas of the Admissions Office are properly organized.

  • Collecting and distributing mail.

  • Inquiry card processing.

  • Hosting or participating in the Barry Live chat.

  • Making calls to students and/or families before and after events.

  • Making welcoming calls on the dialer, or manually which may need to happen after hours.

  • Providing front desk coverage in the absence of the Recruitment and Engagement Specialist.

  • Providing customer service in person or over the phone.

  • Connecting students to admission counselors.

  • Assist with the marketing of various events and programs.

  • Social media

  • Merchandise inventory and stocking.

  • Restocking acceptance letters.

  • Preparing Counselor packaging for recruitment visits.

  • Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to:

  • Completing inventory checks at Hopper and Kelley House.

  • Maintaining and organizing key guest areas such as the lobby, as well as Ambassador workspaces.

  • Set up and break down of events.

  • Filing, data entry, data collection, photocopying, typing correspondences, processing mail, creating packets, and maintaining cleanliness of program spaces.


Qualifications/Requirements

  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 credits/ or completed 1 semester at Barry University prior to employment.

  • Able to work during holidays. For example, winter break, spring break, and summer break.

  • Be able to work with diverse populations who have varied needs for assistance.

  • Possess good interpersonal communication skills.

  • Have an outgoing, positive attitude, with a willingness to play a key role in networking across campus.

  • Demonstrate initiative, dependability, problem solving and reliability.

  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Have a knowledge of the campus and its various resources.

  • Exhibit a proficiency in working with computers.

  • Be able to exercise discretion when working with confidential information.

  • Demonstrate the ability to follow through and complete tasks as assigned.

  • Ability to demonstrate understanding and empathy when dealing with complex and sensitive issues.

  • Be passionate and have a genuine interest in supporting new college students.

Expectations

  • Must remain a student of good academic standing at the institution.

  • Student Ambassadors may be asked to serve as Bucky (University Mascot) during any Undergraduate Admissions event, social media campaign, or recruitment effort.

  • Participate in Student Ambassador Training Program.

  • Participate in a Summer Student Leadership Training with the O-Team and Resident Assistants.

  • Attend Salesforce Training, Dialer Training, any IT training.

  • Attend scheduled team meetings.

  • Must be able to work a minimum 16 hours per week.

  • Must abide by regulations described in the Student Ambassador Manual.

  • Must abide by regulations described in the Student Handbook and Employee Handbook.

  • Must adhere to strict confidentiality of student information.

  • Follow guidelines for appropriate dress attire: Any Barry Gear, neutral-colored pants or approved shorts or skirts, jeans with no rips on Fridays only. No athletic gear, no hats.

  • Encourage positive academic behaviors and serve as a positive role model for teammates and peers.

Scheduling

  • Attend work on-time.

  • Any late attendance more twice a week will result in repercussions.

  • Must provide a notice within a minimum of 24 hours if time off is required.

  • A maximum of 30 hours per week is allowed during holiday breaks.
