Bursar's Office

The Student Accounts Representative reports directly to the Director for Student Accounts. This is a customer-focused position providing service to students and their families, staff, faculty, and other members of the community while complying with established accounting policies and procedures of the Board of Regents, the University, and private sponsors. The Student Accounts Office provides for the accurate billing and timely collection of student tuition and fees, inclusive of third-party sponsors as well as collection, deposit, and subsequent recording of all student account deposits for the University. The Student Accounts Representative assists the Director of Student Accounts with management of financial compliance of all applicable Federal and State laws, regulations, and policies.

Significant duties and responsibilities includes: Provides customer services using various means of communication.; Verifies and posts invoice payments and departmental deposits.; Prepares daily bank deposits and balances cash drawer.; Issues, clears, and reimburses petty cash.; Enters student data for approved payment plans.; Files daily work in an approved format.; Reports to Financial Aid scholarship checks received that need to be deposited and awarded.; Ensure the tuition and fees are assessed correctly and reflected accurately on student accounts in Banner.; Billing and Collections: The position is responsible for ensuring all billing for students, student sponsors and outside third parties are accurate and occurs in a timely manner.; Installment Plans: The position will work closely with the Financial Aid Office to ensure all aspects of scholarships and installment plans are applied to student accounts in a timely manner.; Communicates with students and United Health Care regarding student insurance coverage and waivers.; Credit Balance Refund Processing ¿ The position will assist the Director with coordinating the timely processing of credit balance refunds due to students because of financial aid sources and/or overpayments made to student accounts.; Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Accounts.

Required qualifications include an associate degree in accounting or related field and 2 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Preferred qualifications include working knowledge of Ellucian Banner and PeopleSoft, and experience working in a higher education setting. 

The proposed annualized salary range for this position is $34,868-$37,852 and includes full benefits. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include: Knowledge of Accounting principles; cashiering; banking; bookkeeping processes and procedures.; Ability to use standard office equipment-computer, adding machine, calculator, copier, fax, scanner.; Ability to acquire knowledge and become proficient in the use of various technologies used in the day-to-day performance of this job.; Working knowledge of Microsoft products, including Excel and Word.; Must be detailed oriented.; Must possess excellent organizational skills.; Must possess clear and concise communication skills-written and verbal.

  • Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive a Columbus State University fleet vehicle or other vehicle designated as a fleet vehicle. A successful drug screening will be required as a condition of employment a randomly thereafter.

 For Faculty Hires : Final candidates will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree(s) as well as post-secondary coursework in the form of original transcript(s).
