Job Summary
Assist in leading the customer service initiative within the Office of Student Accounts by providing exceptional customer service to UT Arlington’s community. The person in this role will be expected to adapt to the individual needs of our customers and outside collection agencies and explain complex details about the student account and a wide range of other business processes. The Student Account Advisor III must be able to work with confidence, consistent accuracy, and independence. This role requires someone who can excel in a fast past environment without compromising the level of service provided to all customers. These primary functions include all functions of collections, billing, invoicing, assisting customers and outside entities in person and via email, analyzing accounts and guidance where needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the collection efforts related to university receivable system (student accounts receivables, housing, institutional loans, student orgs.).
  • Must understand the accounting procedures and requirements pertaining to the University’s accounts receivable system and how they are integrated with the other University systems.
  • Reviewing past due accounts to determine appropriate action, consulting with members of the University community regarding the status of past due accounts, and assuming responsibility for effective follow up on past due accounts.
  • Conducting collection reports and creating metrics.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of collection files by following University procedures for the recording and filing of both written and personal communications with debtors regarding their delinquent accounts and placement of accounts with outside agencies, invoicing, and bankruptcy accounts.
  • Promotes a professional image of the University in its debt collection effort by maintaining a good rapport between the University and the students, alumni, and friends while performing all related collection functions in an efficient manner.
  • Responsible for assisting in the Third-Party Billing processes in times of need, including but not limited to assigning students to contracts, processing departmental deposits, posting payments, and providing information via email, telephone, and/or in-person.
  • Responsible for assisting in cashiering functions in times of need, including but not limited to accepting and posting payments, processing deposits, removal of student account holds, cashing checks and processing/cashing vouchers, analyzing charges and payments, verifying financial aid refunds, balancing cash drawer, and processing change orders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with two (2) 2 years related experience or six (6) years related work experience or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Must have excellent customer service, leadership, collections, and cash management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or accounting with four (4) years related work experience or seven (7) years related experience.
  • Higher Education and Collections experiences a plus.
  • Banking or financial institution experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Experience assisting customers by email and/or in person.
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office suite, data entry.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
