Description

 

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a STERILE SUPPLY TECH - SOD to operate all sterilizing equipment according to current regulations. To monitor and report technical problems with equipment and autoclaves. To keep proper inventory of sterilization chemicals and supplies. To collect, clean, decontaminate, disinfect and/or sterilize dental instruments, trays and packs, and patient care equipment according to established standards and procedures to ensure sterility and functionality of instruments and equipment. To hand wash and cold sterilize equipment as indicated per CDC sterilization guidelines. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Operates all sterilizing equipment according to current regulations. Inspects, examines, accounts for instruments, equipment and kits utilized in the clinic and processed in our sterile room; Cleans, washes, debrides, (decontamination) and reassemble instruments for sterilization (reassembly); and identifies cassettes, pouches, equipment and label items accordingly prior to autoclaving.
2. Keeps proper inventory of sterilization chemicals and supplies; assists with ordering; assures sterile supplies are within expiration date; Assists with labeling, identification and marking of cassettes, instruments and equipment utilized in this clinic.
3. Tests autoclaves functionality daily utilizing a Bowie-Dick Test, records results, monitors every load utilizing a biological indicator, records results. Monitors results after each autoclave cycle; records results in computer system after each autoclave cycle.
4. Perform other duties as assigned.

(Hourly Rate:  $15.00  -  $21.79

 

Qualifications

 

High School diploma or GED and one (1) year experience in Sterile Supply required. Currently Certified as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) with the Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) preferred. If not certified as a CSPDT, obtaining certification would be expected within 18 months of employment.
