Job Summary
The STEPS Assistant Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Manager will assist in all aspects of the daily farm operation. They will attend and help lead weekly planning meetings with the CSA Manager and CSA crew. The job will assist with directing farm crew members, both new and returning staff. The Assistant CSA Manager has leadership in decision-makingregarding field work, as well as delegating and supervisingactivities to staff. This position reports directly to the CSAManager.
Areas of work and shared oversight will include:
-Crop and field planning, preparation, tillage, irrigation, covercropping
-IPM practices including weed management, cultivation, scouting,pesticide applications
-Harvest, post-harvest handling, and food safety
-Season extension and structure management
-Occasional participation in educational activities, leadingtours, and engaging with visitors and students
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
• 1-2 years of organic vegetable production or other farmingexperience, with demonstrated leadership roles.
• Experience operating tractors and other mechanical equipmentis a plus. Job will also require heavy lifting at times of up to50 lbs.
• Punctuality and flexibility.
• Ability to both follow and communicate verbal and writteninstructions with a keen attention to detail and timemanagement.
• Strong communication skills, which must include an ability tolisten, collaborate, encourage.
• Ability to create and maintain a hospitable and welcomingwork environment, and to demonstrate a consistent positiveattitude.
• Ability to cope with, and practice emotional management in, afast-paced work environment with fluctuating demands on time andenergy.
• Self-motivation to work efficiently and maintain a steady,balanced workflow in all weather conditions.
• Sense of personal accountability and ownership, and awillingness to continue to learn and receive constructivefeedback.
• Willingness to obtain pesticide applicator license withinfirst year of employment and rotate within sprayresponsibilities, both tractor and backpack spraying, as needed.
