Primary Purpose
The STEM Tutor Coordinator works closely with the Tutoring and Testing Center Director, directly supervises STEM tutors and provide discipline-specific tutor training. In this capacity, the individual also serves as a direct liaison to the STEM faculty, bridging curriculum and tutoring services. The coordinator also provides tutoring services thus modeling expert tutoring practices and work ethics and assures standardization of practice for tutors across a multi-campus college.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Tutoring Services/Supervision:

  • Continually recruit tutorial staff using various internal and external sources to identify in-person and on-line tutor leads.
  • Screen, hire, train, and supervise tutors throughout the academic year.
  • Edit and maintain training materials to keep current.
  • Establish, monitor and verify tutors’ work hours.
  • Serve as a tutor when no tutors are available and/or extra help is needed.
  • Market the STEM tutoring services via websites, e-mails, fliers, class visits, etc.
  • Collect required student information while following the Family and Educational Rights and Protection Act (FERPA) guidelines.

Partnerships and Collaboration:

  • Attend Science and Mathematics department and Instructional meetings that pertain to the success of STEM tutors and instructional support in these departments.
  • Collaborate with instructors to maximize assistance for their students.
  • Connect STEM tutor outcomes to the College’s mission, values and goals.
  • Participate in the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) accreditation.
  • Serve on College committees.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned, as they pertain to the overall objective of the position.

Ergonomic Requirements
Regular office hours are established between 8 am – 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.
Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM related field.

Experience:
  • One year of secondary or college-level teaching or tutoring.
  • One year of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
  • Familiarity with managing on-line tutoring programs to support remote delivery of services.
  • Experience working with students with learning disabilities; knowledge of ADA laws and compliance.
  • Experience in secondary or college-level student support services (e.g. registration, orientation activities).
