The Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science is searching for an adjunct instructor who will teach an online course in introductory statistics from May 15 through August 11 using Canvas and Carnegie Mellon's Open Learning Initiative. 

Major Responsibilities:

    • Instruct up to 20 students located across the globe in an online classroom in a dynamic and supportive manner
    • Hold twice weekly recitations and individual tutoring sessions as necessary. May require evening and weekend hours on occasion.
    • Adapt to students' needs and keep them engaged with the material
    • Familiarize yourself with the Canvas and Carnegie Mellon's Open Learning Initiative statistics curriculum
    • Model professionalism and accountability at all times by showing up to tutoring sessions on time, replying to students in a timely manner, documenting student progress, and holding students accountable for assignments
    • Inform manager when students are falling behind
    • Create an open, safe, and positive learning environment

Education, Background, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Experience with Canvas and OLI preferred
  • Access to a reliable internet connection and computer in a reliably quiet location
  • Excellent oral and communication skills
  • Previous TA or teaching experience preferred
  • College level experience in statistics
  • Confident and engaging discussion leader
  • Bachelor's degree completed; Master's degree preferred
