Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some evenings & weekends required and on-call crisis intervention services rotation


Job Summary: The Staff Therapist II provides clinical services to clients. Completes client assessments. Performs case management and documentation duties. Serves as a liaison among stakeholders.


Additional Department Summary: This position is an embedded position with the College of Human and Environmental Sciences and will provide clinical, consultative, and outreach services to students within the College. This position will be housed fulltime in the College of Human and Environmental Sciences. Position duties include individual and group counseling, outreach and consultation to students, staff, faculty, administrators, parents/families as it relates to the College and, as needed, training to students in the mental health professions. This position is expected to rotate on-call throughout the year for the purpose of crisis intervention services. This position is a part of the UA Counseling Center and will report to the Executive Director of the Counseling Center. This position will participate in case management and supervision within the Counseling Center. This position will also work in tandem with College of Human and Environmental Sciences staff to achieve job duties.

Works with people in distress and encounters life-threatening emergencies routinely. Maintains knowledge of and adheres to all policies and procedures as contained in the Counseling Center Policy and Procedure Manual. Follows Quality Improvement standards. Completes required training and promotes a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. Works after-hours as needed.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree or higher in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work and two (2) years of experience in consultation services, group therapy, teaching, outreach, student work, or case management. Licensure in the state of Alabama at the level of an independent practitioner.

Excellent judgment, problem solving, and a thorough knowledge of the myriad factors behind the resolution of psychological problems. Excellent human relations, advocacy, and mental health intervention skills. Superior time and task management skills. Ability to use departmental resources to stay up to date on customer needs. Ability to use sound judgment and competence in managing critical incidents and communications with others. Basic computer skills (word processing, email, etc.). Ability to effectively interact with University community members for the purpose of program development.

Preferred Qualifications: College or University counseling center experience.
