Job Summary
 

The Department of Medicine, Section of Cardiology is looking for a Staff Scientist to work on Cardiac electrophysiology research, specifically with expertise in cellular electrophysiology.
The Staff Scientist is expected to plan, execute, facilitate and advance technical/scientific research projects. Designs, develops and tests experimental protocols for research (including empirical protocols, computational, statistical methods, etc.). Collaborates with other researchers as appropriate. Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports, and co-authors scientific research manuscripts. May supervise other research staff. May present work at scientific meetings, and provide peer review of grant applications and scientific manuscripts. The individual in this role will be involved in all aspects of the design, development, implementation, and analysis of research projects focused on population variation in immune responses.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research experiments - specifically in the cardiac electrophysiology domain. Skills particularly desired are experience in cellular electrophysiology techniques, such as patch clamping and microelectrode recording techniques. Additional expertise in standard molecular biology techniques such as protein chemistry (western blotting, immunohistochemistry), cloning and PCR would be considered a plus.

  • Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in designing new experiments.

  • Harvest, analyze, and interpret data; draft manuscripts.

  • Present data at research conferences.

  • Maintain experimental databases, including animal and cell culture records.

  • Designs, develops and tests experimental protocols for research (including empirical protocols, computational, statistical methods, etc.).

  • Collaborates with other researchers as appropriate.

  • Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports, and co-authors scientific research manuscripts.

  • Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.

  • Develops laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage, analyze and make recommendations on complex data sets for research.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.

  • Doctoral degree in biological sciences or related field.

Experience:

  • Experience in developing and implementing empirical protocols.

  • Experience with assisting in the training, a strong publication record, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in research.
