Job Summary  

As a Staff Scientist, you will play a critical role in advancing scientific research and discovery. We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in small molecule electron diffraction. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary research projects, train and mentor graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, and manage a transmission electron microscope facility.

Essential Job Duties

  • Manage the operation of an electron microscopy laboratory facility, including calibration, troubleshooting, scheduling, and working with technicians for installation, repairs, and upgrades.
  • Contribute to the design and modification of experimental techniques, equipment, and procedures, and document and communicate these procedures in written and electronic formats.
  • Train and supervise new users in the use of experimental techniques, analytical instrumentation, and processing of crystallographic datasets.
  • Process and analyze research samples for the group and outside collaborators.
  • Assist in mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral researchers on electron diffraction techniques.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative techniques and intellectual property related to electron microscopy and microED.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in a STEM field (preferably Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related discipline).
  • 3+ years of experience working with transmission electron microscopes.
  • Knowledge of small molecule electron diffraction, including data processing and structural refinement, with a strong interest in the field.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and fixing equipment and instrumentation.
  • Capable of basic laboratory chemical work and quantitative data analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in coding, such as Python.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in mentoring and supervising researchers, especially in the field of electron diffraction.
  • Strong publication record in the field of electron microscopy and related research areas.
  • Experience in developing automation regimes for processing of electron diffraction data.
