Job Summary

Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, faculty member or his designee, serves as a Staff Research Associate.

The SRA must follow established experimental protocols; assist in the development of new experimental protocols and with more detailed and complicated experiments; handles animals when and as needed; organize the laboratory; assimilate and evaluate data accurately; track and order supplies.

Assist occasionally with students in research-related activities and performs additional related duties as assigned.

Department Description

Ophthalmology became established as a department separate from Otolaryngology in 1912 at the University of California San Francisco. Since that time the Department of Ophthalmology has grown steadily and today includes the clinical facilities of three major hospitals. The Department of Ophthalmology is organized around faculty members with subspecialty skills and expertise. The department combines one of the nation's leading vision research programs with outstanding clinical care. The research and multicenter clinical facilities of the Department of Ophthalmology comprise the Beckman Vision Center.


Required Qualifications

  • Human iPSC retinal organoid experience
  • Lab skills including PCR, qPCR, westerns and immunohistochemistry, histopathology and microscopy and stem cell cultures
  • Cell and molecular biology experience as obtained in school
  • BA/BS/BSc Degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, or related biological science, and knowledge of/experience with the basic techniques/methods required by the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Efficient and organized with meticulous record keeping skills
  • Strong communication skills, computer skills, be highly motivated and work well as a team or independently
  • Ability to work independently and effectively after receiving instruction, while managing and prioritizing multiple projects; trained in or willingness to be successfully trained in and conduct studies is critical to the position
