Job Summary

The lab does research involving 3D cell culture, molecular biology, optical microscopy and mouse cancer models. Our lab is interested in tissue structure and answering questions such as: How do tissues form during development? How do these structures break down during aging and cancer? How can we engineer tissues for regenerative medicine and disease modeling? Please see the lab website for more details: https://gartnerlab.ucsf.edu/

This Staff Research Associate position provides support to the research investigating early oncogenic events in the mammary gland by assisting and carrying out projects involving mouse husbandry, optical microscopy, single cell analysis, 3D cell culture and organoid maintenance. Also, the position provides support for lab maintenance, organization and ordering. This position is 50% research and 50% general lab maintenance and management.

Department Description

The Department’s research focuses on understanding fundamental biochemical mechanisms underlying health and diseases, which are key to developing new and more effective diagnostics and medications. The Department’s basic research not only identifies new drug targets for small molecule drugs, it also develops the tools and methods to discover such targets and therapies to more rapidly determine their efficacy and safety at the molecular level thus improving the efficiency of the drug discovery process and potentially leading to improved therapeutics.


Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS in a related science and knowledge of/experience with the basic techniques/methods required by the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact productively with lab and campus personnel
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Supervisory/managerial skills
  • Experience with working with optical microscopy will be an added advantage
