Job Summary

The purpose of the Staff Research Associate position is to assist with projects in the Robinson Lab related to the areas of toxicology, developmental biology, functional genomics, and environmental health. Primary laboratory duties will include: 1) supporting postdocs and lab personnel; 2) performing lab experiments using standardized protocols to culture and expose cell/tissue embryo models to compounds; 3) conducting molecular, cellular, genetic, functional and morphological assays using human/rodent biomaterials; 4) extracting, sorting and summarizing public datasets; and 5) supporting the general organization and maintenance of the lab. The incumbent may have opportunities to learn additional skills such as animal handling and colony management, transcriptomic and proteomic analysis, tissue sectioning and/or immunofluorescence and assist in other ongoing projects.

Department Description

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences (Ob/Gyn & RS) is a major academic Department in the School of Medicine (SOM), engaged in clinical, research, and training activities at the Parnassus, Mt. Zion and San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) campuses, as well as satellite locations throughout the Bay Area, with an annual operating budget of $149 million and the new Betty Irene Moore Women’s Hospital at Mission Bay. The OBGYN Department has 102 full-time faculty, 136 other academic appointees, 39 post-doctoral fellows, 20 clinical fellows, 36 residents, 136 voluntary clinical faculty, and 266 staff. Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Some lab experience (which may be acquired in school and/or training).
  • Experience with stem cell culture or equivalent (which may be acquired in school and/or training).
  • Experience with molecular and/or cellular assays (which may be acquired in school and/or training).
  • Experience working with human blood and/or tissues (which may be acquired in school and/or training).
  • Experience with laboratory operations and biosafety (which may be acquired in school and/or training).
  • Computer software skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to read and summarize literature and present data.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Cooperative attitude and works well in team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with methods of statistical analysis (which may be acquired in school and/or training).
  • Experience curating and organizing large datasets (which may be acquired in school and/or training).
  • Experience working with rodents or other animal model organisms (which may be acquired in school and/or training).
