Position Information

This SRA 4 position will have responsibilities in research and management in the Raikhel Lab (Dept. Entomology, UC Riverside). The incumbent will be involved in innovative scientific projects in collaboration with Dr. Raikhel and is expected to make significant contributions to lab experimental protocols and research studies. These concern investigation of the molecular biological basis of mosquito reproduction. Therefore, advanced knowledge and experience in molecular biological techniques is required for this position. The incumbent will confer with Dr. Raikhel on the overall approach to research projects, review appropriate scientific literature, and then use this information to develop specific procedures to perform lab experiments. The position will also be responsible for the preparation of complete written reports on all phases of lab research projects. This includes preparing scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals (the incumbent would be a co-author on such manuscripts). In addition, the SRA 4 will be responsible for laboratory management. This includes supervising mosquito rearing for colony maintenance and lab experiments. Thus, experience in mosquito rearing and research is required. The position will keep scientific equipment in good condition, will oversee maintaining a lab inventory of research supplies, and will purchase new supplies. This position will be in charge of safety requirements for personnel and the laboratory space.

The full salary range for the SRA 4 is $79,919.20 - $114,120.44 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Minimum Requirements

Advanced knowledge of a wide variety of specialized laboratory equipment.
Solid knowledge of data acquisition and analysis techniques.
Knowledge of necessary lab safety procedures and requirements, as well as chemical disposal guidelines.
Solid interpersonal communication skills to effectively supervise all levels of staff.
Advanced knowledge of research discipline to collaborate effectively with faculty and function as a resource to research and instructional associates.
Advanced and highly specific knowledge and expertise associated with conducting and reporting on scientific research experiments and findings.
Solid leadership skills associated with planning work assignments, establishing priorities, scheduling instructional space, and ensuring completion of multiple projects.
Focus of knowledge and skills dependent on area of specialty (laboratory research or instructional/experimental design).
Solid abilities to conduct and report on scientific experiments and findings.
Solid interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff.
Solid knowlege of molecular biological investigations in insects.
