This job opening is for a Temporary RN- Wound-Ostomy Team position

These positions are not covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U of M Professional Nurse Council.

* In addition:
Unit- based temporary employees who have worked 400 hours in a calendar year then become a Per Diem employee and have an obligation to pay dues or service fees as covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U of M Professional Nurse Council.

* Once the employee meets the 400 hour threshold, they then are a union member for the duration of employment as Per Diem.

Responsibilities*

Serves as a clinical resource and consultant to patients, families, nursing and medical staff specializing in wound and ostomy care, and pressure ulcer prevention for both pediatric and adult populations.

Works collaboratively with patients, families, medical staff and bedside nursing in developing and implementing recommendations for the nursing care of patients with ostomies, vascular wounds, diabetic ulcers, acute and chronic pressure ulcers, surgical wounds, dermal wounds, fistulas and breakdown due to urinary and fecal incontinence in both inpatient and outpatient areas.

Development of patient/family/nursing teaching materials for management of wound, ostomy care, and pressure ulcer prevention.

Participates in the development of institutional policies, procedures and guidelines in keeping with evidenced based practice and standards for nursing care of wounds and ostomies.

Plans and implements nursing educational programs for central orientation, inservicing and education for staff development.

Plan, organize and evaluate clinical practice and educational activities of UMHS nursing staff with regard to wound and ostomy care, and pressure ulcer prevention.

Participate in quality assurance and evidence based practice initiatives related to wound, ostomy care and pressure ulcer prevention.

Reviews institutional pressure ulcer data to assist in identification of improvement opportunities and potential initiatives to address.

Consults on patients with Negative Pressure Wound Therapy as appropriate to assist staff with troubleshooting, and dressing (complicated cases).

Provides recommendations of wound and ostomy care supplies and equipment as appropriate.

Oversees patient evaluation and provides consultation for therapeutic surfaces/ specialty beds.

Required Qualifications*

Candidate must hold a current licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.

WOCN Certification

At least two (2) years of recent experience in the care of wound/ostomy patients
