Primarily weekdays, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.  Occasional overtime and weekends may be required, specifically during audit preparation time

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS:

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.  They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of one so classified.

  • Preparing and posting journal entries.
  • Assist in month end close process.
  • Performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Administrate corporate credit card program and assist with expense reports in Concur.
  • Accounting support to university departments, as needed.
  • Act as back-up for the Accounts Payable department.
  • Meeting processing and reporting deadlines including IRS and other Tax/Govt filings, annual 1099 filings, quarterly form 8849 fuel report, monthly submission of sales tax returns and payments.
  • Issue and maintain mobile credit card readers as needed for campus events.
  • Manage stale dated checks and submission of unclaimed property reports to the state.
  • Assist with annual audit information requests.
  • Assist in maintaining fixed asset records.
  • Provide prompt assistance to other accountants and departments as needed or requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be service oriented, within the office as well as with all other customers
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to work with a high degree of accuracy, efficiency and independence and take ownership of his/her work product.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-task environment while meeting recurring deadlines
  • Ability to work in a team environment to meet institutional goals
  • Proven ability to employ outstanding oral, written, organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to implement instructions regarding- GAAP, FASB, IRS and state tax
  • Ability to recognize and protect sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to work with a high degree of personal and professional integrity
  • Ability to recognize, reconcile and correct processes and entries impacting bank and other General Ledger accounts
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office, primarily Excel and Outlook, and ability to learn and use dedicated software and report writing tools
  • Preferred- Experience in accounting, auditing or accounts payable: for an institution of higher learning or not-for-profit organization in a fund-accounting environment
  • Preferred- Experience in analyzing and reconciling general ledger account and/or bank reconciliations, fixed assets and other accounting/audit support tasks as listed in the responsibilities for this position
  • Preferred-Experience working in SAP Concur
