Job Summary
This is a full-time, one-year limited term position based in Pell City, AL. Continuation of employment is subject to funding availability.

The St. Clair County Extension Office is thrilled to announce the opening for a Full-Time 4-H/ Workforce Agent Assistant! In this role, you will dedicate 50% of your time to implementing and coordinating the goals and objectives of the 4-H Youth program, and the remaining 50% to the St. Clair County workforce development initiative.
As the Agent Assistant, you will be responsible for delivering 4-H Youth and Extension Workforce Development programming to youth and adult audiences across business, educational, and public agency settings in St. Clair County. Your duties will include preparing curriculum, implementing youth-related programs, and directly engaging in youth activities. Successful candidates will follow specific lesson plans aimed at enhancing youth social and cognitive skills through hands-on activities. Good organizational skills are essential for maintaining accurate records of youth education sessions and progress, while adhering to the guidelines and policies of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. This position will involve collaborating with the County Extension Coordinator and 4-H Youth Development Coordinator on activities benefiting the youth of the county, reporting to the County Extension Coordinator.

Essential Functions
  • Create 4-H publications such as fliers and newsletters; keep 4- Hers informed about upcoming events and deadlines; 4-H enrollment data entry; develop day camp opportunities; work with the County 4-H Team when planning programs and events; assist the 4-H Foundation Regional Extension Agent or County Extension Coordinator during 4-H programs; chaperone regional 4-H events as-needed, and lead 4-H in-school club meetings and programs.
  • The Agent Assistant will also create social media posts to promote 4-H programs and may help create educational videos for virtual programs.
  • The Agent Assistant will follow and adapt research-based lesson plans designed to broaden youth social and cognitive skills through hands-on activities.
  • The Agent Assistant serves as a member of the County 4-H Centennial Youth Initiative Team and assists with County 4-H and Extension activities.
  • This position will deliver Extension workforce development programming to youth and adult audiences in business, educational, and public agency settings.
  • The position will also provide programmatic leadership and serve as a liaison between Extension and leaders within business and industry, education, economic development, and county/city government.
  • The workforce development agent will also collaborate with local partners to identify and define workforce skill needs and coordinate programmatic implementation to meet identified needs.
  • Program offerings will address topics such as soft skills, job retention, career exploration, customer service, personal finance, entrepreneurship and financial business planning.
  • Travel to program sites is reimbursed monthly in accordance with Auburn University & ACES policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications
Level I: High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience in the organization and/or presentation of pre-designed educational programs/services, customer service, administrative support/clerical or related experience.
Level II: High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of experience in the organization and/or presentation of pre-designed educational programs/services, customer service, administrative support/clerical or related experience. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.
Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

  • Possess strong organizational skills to effectively and accurately maintain records of youth educational sessions and progress, while adhering to the guidelines and policies of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES).
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in working with youth aged 9-19 on a variety of issues.
  • Display a sincere interest in collaborating with volunteers and professional staff within an educational environment. Ability to recruit, train, and motivate volunteers while fostering positive self-esteem, decision-making, and leadership skills. Must be capable of working with minimal supervision from professional staff.
  • Work collaboratively and professionally with families and colleagues. Willingness to familiarize oneself with and operate within the ACES philosophy and guidelines.

  • The successful applicant must have a demonstrated interest in working with youth ages 5-19 concerning a variety of issues.
  • Must have a sincere interest in working with volunteers and professional staff in an educational setting, and the ability to recruit, train and motivate volunteers while nurturing positive self-esteem, decision-making and leadership skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions related to work with minimum supervision from professional staff.
  • Willingness to become familiar with and work within the philosophy and guidelines of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Effective communication and human relations skills.
  • Working knowledge in operating a personal computer (i.e. software programs including Microsoft Word and Access) are all critical.
