Job Summary

Performs ultrasound procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention. Processes images on appropriate archival systems. Participates in performance improvement activities in the department. Maintains appropriate quality control records and participates in routine equipment testing and maintenance. Requires active ARDMS status and previous ultrasound experience.

Flexibility in scheduling, ability to rotate shifts and coverage for weekends and holidays and on-call shifts.

Department Description

At UCSF Medical Center, we offer the full spectrum of techniques, using the most advanced equipment. Combined with Bone Densitometry, CT, Interventional, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET, Ultrasound, and X-ray. We perform more than 500,000 procedures annually. In fact, a number of radiology advancements and applications were developed here.


Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of a formal accredited ultrasound training program in an approved school.
  • Must have flexibility in scheduling, ability to rotate shifts and coverage for weekends and holidays and on-call shifts.
  • Requires ARDMS credentials in Abdomen and OB/Gyn specialties at minimum.
  • BLS -  Basic Life Support.
  • Requires (2-5) years UCSF experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, and or equivalent experience in a similar Ultrasound department at UCSF. OR
  • New hires who meet criteria of equivalent experience and credentials held must also have equivalent Senior Sonographer skills; the Senior Diagnostic Medical Sonographer title may be granted at the discretion of the Section Chief and Section Supervisor.
  • Maintain ARDMS credential(s) according to the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography's criteria.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and variable shifts per department needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent work experience in an acute care setting

License/Certification

  • Requires ARDMS credentials in Abdomen and OB/Gyn specialties at minimum.
  • BLS -  Basic Life Support.
