Sr. Surgical Technician (U)
The Surgical Technologist 2 (U) work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that the equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical Technologist is proficient in the theory and application of the principles of asepsis and sterile technique to combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation and tools and technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                          

  • Functions as a member of the surgical team in the role of the scrub person.

  • The Surgical Technologist in the first scrub role handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.

  • Has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.

  • Has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.

  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and proficient practice in the first scrub role in the majority of the surgical procedures.

  • Applies knowledge of advanced surgical techniques.

  • Applies knowledge related to emergent situations, and surgical procedures in the operating room.

  • Exhibits a higher level of collaboration with peers in making decisions related to surgical patient care.

  • Acts as an informal resource for the other technologists with less experience.

  • Provides support in the training of students and onboarding of new surgical technologists.

  • Serves as a mentor and role model.

  • Reviews all operational information related to efficiency and productivity matrices and established targets.

  • (First Case On Time Starts (FCOTS) and Turn Around Time (TAT)).

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent and/or Graduated from an accredited Surgical Technology program

Certification and Licensing:

Certification as a Surgical Technologist preferred

Current AHA Basic Life Support certificate required

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of operation and maintenance of equipment and supplies located in the operating room
