THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:   The Sr. Research Specialist leads the research activities within the laboratory for the Principal Investigator. This position supervises all daily activities and oversees the development of novel and unconventional drug screening protocols in various biological systems.  

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the laboratory.
  • Performs extract DNA/RNA, PCR, Agarose, and SDS-PAGE gel electrophoresis.
  • Analyzes and interprets the results of samples and experiments.
  • Develops new techniques and assays and run all experiments.
  • Supervises experimental data collection and analysis.
  • Oversees the assembly, handling, management, documentation, and distribution of several large chemical libraries.
  • Supervises students, postdocs, and research assistants on experiments.
  • Monitors compliance with lab safety regulations.
  • Orders supplies for the daily operation of three laboratory spaces.
  • Completes an inventory of equipment and test samples in the lab.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

     

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

      EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in one of the sciences. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

      EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of research laboratory experience; OR Master’s Degree and two (2) years of research laboratory experience. Experience leading and maintaining day-to-day research experiments and working knowledge of current safety standards and purchasing experience is required. 

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  

    • Skill in performing lab techniques independently.
    • Ability to work in a team environment and maintain excellent working relationships.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to meet schedules and timelines, as well as plan and organize work.
    • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.
    • Ability to engage professionally with staff, students, and faculty.
    • Excellent communication skills.  

     

    WORK SCHEDULE: This position is occasionally required to work evenings and weekends. May require occasional overnight travel.
