We are looking for a Sr. Research Data Analyst with a strong background in data management and data analysis to join our multidisciplinary team. Under the supervision of the principal investigator, this individual will be expected to independently carry out data analyses and work effectively with team members to achieve the overall goals of this project. This role will be responsible for data management, analysis, interpretation, general project management, presentation of findings, and participation in manuscript preparation.
Housing—including its affordability, quality, and neighborhood location—is a key driver of health and health equity. The Housing Assistance, Outcomes, Medicare, and SEER (HOMES) Study is an innovative research study that seeks to understand the impact of housing policy on cancer. It brings together several large scale, administrative datasets including cancer registry data, Medicare insurance claims, and federal data on the receipt of housing assistance, to investigate the ways in which where we live impact cancer stage at diagnosis, timely guideline-concordant treatment, and emergency department visits. The research team represents a highly collegial group of scholars from clinical medicine, cancer health services research, epidemiology, economics, and statistics. The study is designed to inform a policy and practice at the intersection of housing and health.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the creation of cleaned data sets, including addition of variable labels and value descriptions; creation of summary variables; merging, creating, and recoding variables to prepare data for analyses; and compiling data from various sources into analytic data sets.
- Plan, execute, and track data management tasks in accordance with project timelines;
- Oversee data cleaning, including identifying potential problems with study data and collaborating with quality control staff on problem resolution;
- Perform statistical analyses to test study hypotheses as discussed with investigators;
- Create tables and figures in publication-quality form summarizing the results of statistical analyses as requested by investigators;
- Clearly summarize and present findings at team meetings.
- Discuss with colleagues, investigators, and supervisor the need for any additional analyses and/or special methodological needs.
- Write detailed documentation/specifications for analysis data sets and related files.
- Prepare written reports of statistical analyses, including references, methods, results, and conclusions to contribute to scientific publications.
- Manage research datasets on file servers and ensure their appropriate backup, completeness, correctness and integrity.
- Attend staff meetings and provide updates on status of projects.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and collaboration skills are needed to support multiple projects led by individual investigators.
- Support the development of grant applications and prepare presentations.
- Assist in literature reviews as needed
- Assist with IRB renewals and applications and other projects as needed.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Competency with statistical languages: SAS, Stata, or R. SAS strongly preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in consulting with researchers and understanding their problems. Excellent writing and verbal skills in the preparation and presentation of reports.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to details are required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree in related discipline. Typically require PhD.
- One-year related experience. Require highly specialized advanced knowledge, education and/or training in a specialized field of study to conduct research.
- Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience conducting academic research and manuscripts.
- Experience with public health databases (e.g. PubMed, WISQARS, WONDER, etc.).

Starting Salary Range: $55,200 - $96,600 Annually (Commensurate with experience)
