Job Summary | The Division of Epidemiology within the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah seeks a highly motivated Senior Research Analyst to join its staff. This position will work closely with the Trajectories of Resilience, Communities, and Health (TORCH) Lab, located on the University of Utah and the Salt Lake City Veteran Affairs campuses. This individual will conduct research focused on Veteran Health care including quality and access to healthcare, health outcomes, healthcare utilization, and policy. They will work independently and assist researchers in the fields of social science, mental health, and anthropology using mixed-method research, policy and program evaluation, and leadership in multiple environments across the nation. This work includes developing technologies and existing alternatives. |
Responsibilities | Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); plus four years of related research experience, and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred. This position is not responsible for providing patient care. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description. Essential Functions 1. Must meet criteria for VA access and work in VA setting. 2. Serves as a qualitative researcher to collect research data employing a variety of techniques to include, but not be limited to, interviews, focus groups, case studies, and surveys. 3. Assists investigators with design of qualitative research methods and procedures for collecting data. 4. Evaluates methodological approaches for sampling, data collection. 5. Formats, enters, and organizes data for statistical analysis. 6. Conducts statistical analyses, employing methods of qualitative analysis to include, but not be limited to, content analysis, narrative analysis, discourse analysis, thematic analysis, and grounded theory analysis. 7. Gathers statistical and narrative data on project status, including resource utilization, data on participation, adherence to protocols on matters such as participant education, control of data, and other similar matters. 8. Uses a wide variety of computer applications for data analysis and data presentation. 9. Presents results of qualitative data analysis in both oral and written formats (i.e., reports, conferences, manuscripts). 10. Completes literature reviews on pertinent subjects. 11. Assists investigators with design of qualitative research methods for proposals, grants, and manuscripts. 12. Works to broaden research within the associated program or department. Problem Solving The applicant is responsible for coordinating qualitative research data collection and analyses while working with all levels and a variety of staff internally, and external to the University. They must communicate effectively with individuals from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds and with varying levels of education. This individual must employ expertise to determine the most favorable research formats and methods of analysis necessary to attain research objectives. They must be able to provide information and make recommendations on technical issues and research directions where qualitative background information may be lacking.
