The Department if Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Research Associate 2. The Sr. Research Associate 2 ensures that the operations of the assigned laboratory are efficient and in compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations. Moreover, this employee engages in complex and specialized research activities in furtherance of the University’s research goals and objectives.

Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data and maintaining databases. Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures. Participates in the publication of significant results. Advances expertise through continued education, training, and research. Maintains an overview of relevant research findings. Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice. Stays abreast of developments in the field which may impact department functions. Provides guidance, mentorship, and oversight to junior research staff and students. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions

Reports to Principal Investigators and Program Director on assigned funded/unfunded research studies at IDEA syringe services program (SSP) at UM. Develops and maintains reporting needs and/or other requirements as established by the IRB, HSRO, and the HIPAA office Oversees all activities research and program daily activities at the IDEA SSP fixed site location including oversight of volunteer staff, safety and security procedures Reviews and administers informed consent forms to participants for infectious diseases related studies. Interacts with various agencies and their representatives on issues regarding future and on-going protocols requiring occasional visits to supporting agencies and national meetings Involved with participant recruitment and screening by conducting sampling research design at IDEA SSP fixed site and mobile unit locations in the community as required by study protocols. Maintains a study participant data as required by protocols and Florida law Coordinates research related activities, including scheduling of participants and administrative activities (invoicing and maintaining participant logs) Assist with reporting to sponsors, Florida Department of Health and Department of Children and Families Participate and assist in preparation of study meetings. Collaborates with other research personnel conducting research at IDEA SSP and other programs at UM. Maintains and oversees IDEA SSP petty cash accounts Keeps track enrollment log regarding patients for payment Develops and manages the following procedures as they pertain to studies and participants: Participates in the publication of significant research results Advances expertise through education, training, and research Assist in preparation of research proposals Performs calculations to complete research test results Participates in training sessions and workshops

Minimum Requirements

Master’s Degree in relevant field required

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
