The mission of the Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) is to serve the University and its faculty by commercializing technologies developed within the university system to benefit the public. The Senior Licensing Associate will work collaboratively with other team members to conduct and manage technical, patent, and market research in allocated technology areas. The primary responsibilities for this position will include but not be limited to independently assessing innovation disclosures for commercial potential and protectability; developing commercialization pathways for innovations; negotiating license and option agreements.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS   

Assesses innovation disclosures for commercialization potential. Interface with inventors on commercialization pathways.  Negotiations of licensing and option agreements, including terms and conditions, royalties, and intellectual property rights. Cultivates strong relationships with inventors, researchers, industry partners, and legal teams to facilitate technology transfer and licensing. Monitors and manages ongoing licensing agreements. Interface with Contracts Analyst and Finance team to ensure compliance with agreement.  Develops marketing strategies to promote licensed technologies and identify potential business development opportunities. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in life sciences is required. Master’s or Ph.D. degree in life sciences highly preferred.

Certification and Licensing:

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in technology transfer or technology development. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Work to simplify the complex process of commercialization.

  • Must be driven by business needs, both external and internal.

  • Strong understanding of intellectual property laws and regulations.

  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Proficiency in computer software and databases (i.e. Microsoft Office, Wellspring, Inteum, Box).

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
