The University of Miami Health System at Doral has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Sr. Histotechnologist with a hire date of May, 2024.
The University of Miami Health System will soon open the second phase to our state-of-the-art facility in Downtown Doral that serves as a western hub for our distinguished regional network of ambulatory services. This 160,000 square foot expansion will continue to bring world-class academic medicine, cutting-edge technology, and innovative treatment options to the rapidly growing Doral community. UHealth at Doral will have services through the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and the Desai Sethi Urology Institute, as well as specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and more. The expansion will provide residents with innovative, specialized medical services in the heart of their community. Once complete, UHealth at Doral will have 8 operating rooms, 3 endoscopy procedure rooms, 33 cancer treatment bays, over 60 multidisciplinary exam rooms, and supporting ancillary services like imaging, lab, and respiratory therapy. UHealth at Doral will open in September, 2024.
The Sr. Histotechnologist performs as a laboratory professional who prepares tissues from surgical specimens for histology, electron microscopy, and immunohistochemistry. The incumbent utilizes laboratory and hospital systems to accession data and perform other appropriate system functions. Additionally, this employee performs tissue processing and sectioning.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Prepares tissue specimens for microscopic examinations and handles the more complex jobs involving immunohistochemistry for clinical patient diagnosis.
Maintains and reviews quality control in assigned laboratory facilities.
Determines the acceptability of testing results and instrument function.
Maintains all equipment and places orders for reagents and materials.
Maintains records of samples including sample accessioning and paraffin block and slide files. Follows specimen handling and processing procedures.
Participates in the formulation and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
Provides guidance and leadership to employees within assigned section.
Makes recommendations for improvement of laboratory functions.
Handles clinical and patient concerns in a confidential manner employing integrity and discretion. Identifies and resolves problems with equipment and specimen integrity.
Examines slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:
Associate’s degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Certification in relevant specialty or field
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
