Description

 

Responsible for writing or overseeing the writing of gift agreements that document major gift (defined as between$25,000 and $2.5 million) and principal gift (defined as over $2.5 million) commitments that enhance the relationship between the University of Houston and its generous donors. Collaborates with teams throughout the Division of University Advancement, as well as University offices outside of University Advancement to draft, review, and proofread gift agreements, proposals and other donor correspondence. Works with Development staff to interact directly with donors and ensures gift agreements are the best possible representation of the donor(s) wishes andUniversity's interests.

1. Serves as the primary University Advancement liaison with the Office of General Counsel, the Division ofAdministration & Finance, Office of Financial Aid and the Division of Academic Affairs to address any issues related to major and principal gift agreements as necessary.

2. Manages the gift agreement process, including but not limited to: drafting gift agreements, providing critical reviews, validating changes through engagement with impacted parties, highlighting issues and bringing agreements to closure by working with all parties to obtain final signatures.

3. Advises Donor Relations team on gift acknowledgement letters to the university¿s top supporters that accompany final gift agreements on behalf of the President and/or the Vice President for University Advancement.

4. Coordinates with University support organizations to ensure gift agreements are consistent with UHS policies and protocols and advises on changes/improvements.

5. Develops a comprehensive gift agreement process, including communication to first-time major and principal gift donors; including faculty/staff and other important donor segments.

6. Develops and implements a tracking system of all gift agreements to provide status reports as appropriate as well as ensuring gift agreements and acknowledgements are completed in a timely manner.

7. Manages the gift agreement process for all UH-affiliated support foundations and advises UH System universities as appropriate.

8. Stays abreast of national, state and/or professional regulations that may impact the University's gift agreements process and advises and oversees modifications as necessary to ensure compliance.

9. Monitors and reviews active major and principal gift agreements for adherence to the University's policies, IRS regulations and CASE guidelines.

10. Develops and oversees protocols for document retention, filing and archiving for executed gift agreements, amendments and memoranda.

11. Serves as a member of the University¿s Gift Acceptance Committee, Naming Committee and Gift AdministrativeCouncils as appropriate.

12. Promotes best practices and trains development staff on gift agreement processes.
13. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications

 

Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Preferred: Juris Doctorate.
Experience: Requires a minimum of nine (9) years of directly job-related experience.

Preferred: Minimum five (5) years experience in a large organization working within either: non-profit, compliance and administration, banking and finance, or a fiscal/financial/business office. Knowledge of fundraising practices, gift recording, IRS regulations as they pertain to charitable giving, CASE guidelines.
