Job Summary/Responsibilities

Band members are to represent the band professionally while in uniform; this expectation includes the use of appropriate language while in the arena. Being a member of this ensemble is considered a job, as students are being compensated for their service. Members unwilling to embrace these expectations will be subject to dismissal from the game and/or removal from the band.

PEP BAND CLASS: You must register for MUN 3103 Pep Band – Upper Level
REHEARSALS: Pep Band members will attend rehearsals every Sunday night (time TBD) in building 45, room 1420 until further notice. Rehearsals are mandatory. Grades will be lowered 5 percentage points per unexcused absence (ex. 100 to 95). Each member is afforded 1 rehearsal absence without penalty. No cellphones or tablets are to be used during rehearsal.

EXPECTATIONS: The Osprey Pep Band represents both the UNF School of Music and UNF Athletic Department. It exists to support the teams and entertain game audiences. Our ability to succeed in this effort is highly dependent upon pep band members attending all rehearsals and home games. Members are expected to participate fully, heartily, with a positive attitude, and with musical professionalism. Members are to represent the band professionally while in uniform; this expectation includes the use of appropriate language while in the arena. Being a member of this ensemble is considered a job, as students are being compensated for their service. GAMES:  Games will be added to the syllabus and the Canvas course calendar when we receive the finalized schedule from athletics.  Students are expected to attend every game.
GAME DAY ARRIVAL: The call time for games is 30-45 minutes before game time, dressed and ready to perform. You must sign in upon arrival. You will be considered late if you sign in later than 30 minutes prior to tip off (unless you are coming from a class that immediately precedes the call time). You will not receive credit for the game if you arrive after the National Anthem.
EVENT DRESS: The Game day uniform consists of the pep band rugby shirt and UNF hat (provided), tan/khaki pants and tennis shoes. If you come to a game out of uniform, you will not receive credit for that game.
INSTRUMENTATION:
Instruments in the pep band include flute, clarinet, saxophone (alto, tenor, bari), trumpet, mellophone (horn), trombone, baritone, sousaphone (tuba), and rhythm section (drum set, electric bass, and guitar). You should have your own instrument, with the exception of marching instruments, which will be provided. Everyone must provide their own lyre; a flip folder with music will be provided. Folders must be returned at the end of the season. If a member is missing their flip folder at a rehearsal or game, they will be counted absent.

TRAVEL: The Pep Band will travel to the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament if UNF qualifies each member of the band will be expected to attend and perform. All travel expenses (per diem) are covered. This trip is an official school function, and members will be excused from classes. More info to be announced.
PAY:
As a member of the pep band, students will have the opportunity to earn up to $400 for the semester as a UNF employee.
