Job Summary/Responsibilities
Spinnaker’s Business Manager is responsible for meeting all revenue goals of Spinnaker Media and for all matters related to revenue derived from commercials, sponsorships, underwriting, creative services, and advertisements. The Business Manager guides the Spinnaker Media business staff to meet these goals by hiring, training, motivating, and reviewing the sales team members.
This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. The employee may be asked to perform other related duties as required to meet Spinnaker’s ongoing needs. Employees must meet the responsibilities and qualifications of the position consistent with a minimum of 20 hours of competent effort each week. The Spinnaker Business Manager must:
  • Ensure Spinnaker Media’s continued financial solvency and stability;
  • Generate new sales leads;
  • Promote Spinnaker’s various advertising products and services to new and existing clients;
  • Track the progress and completion of sales from introduction to payment for publication and provide clients with proof of performance;
  • Generate invoices and receipts for underwriting and ad buys;
  • Track advertising, sponsorship, and creative services revenue to ensure all media outlets’ continued financial solvency and stability;
  • Familiarize themselves with Spinnaker Media advertising policies, including ad dimensions, deadlines, and discounts;
  • Be available in the office during business hours to Address clients’ and staffers’ inquiries and concerns;
  • Monitor trends in the broader media business and advertising industries;
  • Reconcile the revenue goals with the other Spinnaker Media student leaders, advisor and office manager at least once a month;
  • Assist with interviewing and hiring staffers, as well as with training and disciplining (when needed) staffers;
  • Attend Spinnaker Media Advisory Board meetings in keeping with Spinnaker Media Advisory board bylaws and weekly leader meetings, unless excused for absence;
  • Oversee and enforce department policies and Spinnaker Media bylaws;
  • Follows and instills the ethics and laws of the bodies (such as SPJ, FCC, and the Constitution) that pertain to their department;
  • Communicate with staff and fellow leaders according to department policies;
Required Qualifications
Must be a current UNF student.
This position requires good leadership, strong customer service, interpersonal and communication skills, and a good understanding of media business practices.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be continuously enrolled at UNF for the duration of the position and not be on academic probation or suspension as defined by the most recent University of North Florida course catalog.
Preferred Qualifications
Sales experience is preferred.
