Job Summary

The Staff Speech Language Pathologist, Speech Pathologist 2, reports to the Rehab Service Manager and provides both direct and indirect patient care services.  The Staff Speech Language Pathologist 2 works primarily with pediatric and adolescent patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, although adult and geriatric patients may also be treated.  Under general direction and upon receipt of written referrals, the Staff Speech Language Pathologist 2 plans and administers a full range of speech therapy services for patients with a variety of voice, swallowing, and upper airway impairments and disabilities.  Services include patient evaluations using speech language pathology tests and measurements, establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and development of therapeutic intervention programs, and implementation of therapeutic intervention plans utilizing all aspects of the speech language pathology scope of practice.  The Staff Speech Pathologist maintains all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient care services.  While performing job duties, the Staff Speech Language Pathologist 2 may also supervise support personnel, student interns and Speech Language Pathology Clinical Fellows.  The Staff Speech Language Pathologist 2 actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, clinical education programs, and in-services and staff development activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Possession of a degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited professional educational program.
  • Minimum of 12 months experience as a licensed therapist.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to recognize signs of distress.
  • Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
  • Basic computer skills in word processing and online communication.
  • Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self-initiation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior speech language pathology experience in an academic medical center environment.
  • Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team.
  • Experience with professional and performing voice including singing
  • Experience with gender affirming voice singing
  • Experience with Head and Neck Cancer patients

License/Certification

  • Possession of or proven eligibility for licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board of California.
