Job Summary:

The Specialized Equipment Assistant (SEA) plays a crucial role in supporting all officers and civilian personnel assigned to the University of Southern California, Department of Public Safety. Provided below are some key points about the duties of a Specialized Equipment Assistant (SEA):

  • Job Accountabilities:
    • The SEA provides logistical oversight, support and accountability of all department issued equipment, vehicles and university property.
    • The SEA facilitates the procurement process of locating and agreeing to terms for purchasing goods, services or other works from an external source, often with the use of a competitive bidding process. Purchasing decisions include delivery options, price fluctuations among competitors that affect availability. Provides statistical data and trends for all future purchases.
    • The SEA must understand and adhere to all university policies as well as department policies and procedures and may not operate outside of these at any time.  
    • Maintains inventory of equipment using an automated system. Tracks equipment expiration data and disposition records. Maintains expenditure documents relating to standing purchase orders. Maintains equipment service data records.
    • Responsible for maintaining accurate chain of custody documents for items disposed of by e-waste, hazardous waste and other items under the university sustainability policies.
    • Maintains records of equipment items returned by personnel upon leaving the university and must be able to prepare inventory reports as needed.  
    • Provides direct support for all university events. Works mandatory overtime as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School or equivalent, combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
  • At least 1 year of direct experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience: 3 to 5 years’ direct experience preferred
  • Knowledge of particular specialized equipment plus experience using a data base program with emphasis on equipment
