Job Description

Join the Learning & Development team at the University of Nevada Reno (UNR) in supporting professional and technical skill development for UNR employees! As a full-time Training Specialist, you will collaborate with the Human Resources Learning & Development team to coordinate, develop, deliver, and execute university-wide on-line and in-person training programs and professional development activities in the areas of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), employee orientations, competency skill development, and manager/supervisor development.

The Specialist coordinates scheduling, execution, and tracking of learning and development training materials and experiences, analyzes end-user needs, designs learning content and modules, and identifies appropriate learner delivery modalities to optimize the learner experience.  In addition, this position assists in testing HRIS system functionality and identifies process changes to optimize HRIS system effectiveness. 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Develops and delivers on-line and in-person training program courses and materials in accordance UNR policies & procedures.

  • Acts as subject matter expert for HRIS (Workday) training facilitation

  • Identifies, develops, and leverages appropriate resources to meet support and/or training needs (e.g., Learning Management System (LMS), job aides, etc.).

  • Establishes and maintains training calendars with special attention to tracking, attendance and employee completion rosters.

  • Ensures technology is available and functional for on-line or recorded training delivery

  • Provides administrative oversight to the UNR HR Learning and Development training function including scheduling and tracking

  • Creates and administers feedback systems to improve training delivery

  • Acts as the LMS administrator for HR and Finance HRIS learning programs

  • Coordinates training for HR and cross-functional needs, including professional development. Provides consistent content, format, and delivery across all trainings

  • Coordinates and moderates monthly UNR HR Network meetings for campus

  • Creates Knowledge Base articles

  • Problem solves user issues and coordinates the execution of solutions

  • Participates in HRIS system testing of new functionality and testing associated with content development

  • Partners with college and school HR and finance contacts to provide specific HRIS departmental training as requested

  • Creates effective training materials including but not limited to activities, case studies, flyers, FAQs, informational emails, newsletters, etc.

  • Creates spreadsheets and/or various reports as needed/directed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will have previous experience training in both on-line and in-person modalities, have experience working with and training on HRIS systems, preferably Workday, excellent technical (Excel, PowerPoint, Office) and problem-solving skills, be self-driven, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be comfortable driving change and influencing campus leaders to drive effective learning and development experiences and outcomes. 

Required Qualifications

High School Graduation and four (4) years of related work experience; OR

Associate’s Degree and three (3) years of related work experience; OR

Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of related experience; OR

Master’s Degree and one (1) year of related experience.

Related Experience: Technical (HRIS) and professional human resources training experience or related.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Workday

  • Experience creating forms, surveys, reports, presentations and performing analysis with Microsoft Excel, Office, and Power Point

  • Excellent presentation, time management, organizational, technical, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of the organization

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality
