Position Summary
The Eli Broad College of Business seeks a learning experience design specialist. This role is a keystone of the Broad Learning Technology and Development team, which is dedicated to building a culture of instructional best practice and accessibility. We engage with instructors to optimize instructional design, educational technology, accessibility, and assessment. As part of the LTD team, you will be central to improving teaching and learning in the college.
 
As a specialist, you will assist faculty members in creating engaging online, hybrid, and digitally enhanced.  in-person learning environments. You will be responsible for implementing universal design, improving instructional design, advising on selection of instructional technologies, and guiding development of curricular materials in online and in-person graduate and undergraduate courses in The Eli Broad College of Business.
 
• You will work closely with instructors to craft engaging learning experiences:
o consulting with faculty about their teaching experience,
o explaining the rationale and design of the LTD process & support options,
o advising on pedagogical strategies and instructor concerns,
o guiding development of measurable learning objectives,
o auditing alignment of instructional materials and activities with those objectives throughout the development process, and
o monitoring progress within the development timeline.
 
• You will support selection of educational technologies by providing sample use cases, example artifacts, orientation materials, and connections to peer instructors, as appropriate.
• You will manage the collation and handoff of materials, instructions, timelines, and feedback from the instructor to the multimedia coordinator, instructional technologist, and undergraduate student workers.
• You will promote the use of accessible digital media in teaching and learning, including captioned video, high-quality audio with transcripts, and alt-text for images.
• You will coordinate accessibility remediation of PDFs and other course documents.
• You will collaborate with faculty, staff, student employees, learning designers, platform providers, and colleagues on matters related to instructional design.
 
While the Broad College supports and encourages a flex schedule which incorporates day/time flexibility as well as work from home opportunities, this position will coordinate with instructors, administrators, and student workers on-campus in East Lansing. As such, this is not a fully remote position, but can have a weekly hybrid schedule.
 
The minimum salary for this position is $70,000. Consideration will be given for years of experience.  Every effort will be made to provide a competitive salary that is equitable amongst Broad faculty facing professionals.

Required Degree

Masters -Education, Instructional design, or related


Minimum Requirements
The demands of this job require that you have a combination of skills surrounding teaching and instructional design and you should have experience ensuring that digital content is accessible. You
should be confident in working with diverse populations and should understand dynamics of instruction at the university level. It is required that you:
• Have a Master’s degree in instructional design, higher education, or other graduate degree related to the job responsibilities.
• Can demonstrate at least 3 years of experience collaborating with university faculty on instructional and course design, accessibility, online programming, assessment and/or pedagogy.
• Can apply the standards outlined by Quality Maters, both in course design and implementation.
• Understand universal design and/or accessibility/disability issues, including WCAG 2.0 guidelines and policy implications, ePub3 and video.
• Excel at managing multiple projects and stakeholders with overlapping timelines.
• Have mentorship, training, or supervisory experience.
• Are an excellent and adaptive communicator.
Desired Qualifications
Ideally you will have the expertise, dedication, and passion to elevate the university's instructional environment and improve the student experience. We see the following skills and competencies as especially desirable:
• Experience teaching college courses, especially in more than one modality
• Experience with Learning Management Systems, particularly D2L (Brightspace) or Canvas
• Experience in current and emerging issues in teaching, learning, and assessment.
• Experience with assistive technologies (e.g., screen-readers, digital learning platforms).
• Experience with faculty training, including workshop design & facilitation
