Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
To provide holistic public health legal services, with a focus on rural communities, for the School of Law’s medical legal partnership known as CHAMPS (Carolina Health Advocacy Medico/Legal Partnership) under the supervision of a senior attorney. This is a full-time grant-funded position.
Required Education and Experience
J.D. degree or J.D. graduate candidate with a May 2024 expected graduation date.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
Experience working with a medical legal partnership.
Ability to work for and with the families of children who are patients of Prisma Health.
Ability to collaborate with law school faculty, staff, and students.

Support CHAMPS attorneys with the representation of low-income clients referred to CHAMPS from Prisma Health.

Provide support for CHAMPS attorneys as they litigate cases and appeals in SSI, Medicaid, housing conditions, education, and income stability and public benefits matters.

Responsible for outreach in rural communities for the purposes of increasing services and referrals to CHAMPS, including spending an average of 2 to 3 days per week at Prisma Health Tuomey in Sumter.
